She attended St. George's School in Newport, RI, where she was awarded a full scholarship for all four years at this college preparatory boarding school. After graduating with distinction from St. George's, Amparo attended Rice University, where she was on the President's Honor Roll. Amparo double-majored at Rice in Sociology and Latin American Studies. While attending Rice, she spent a semester in Spain as a student in a Master's program in International Development Studies. Amparo was one of very few undergraduate students to be admitted to this Master's program. She perfected her Spanish language skills and later attained a Superior Certification in Legal and Commercial Spanish from the Madrid Chamber of Commerce. Amparo is also proficient in Portuguese and conversant in Italian.
After completing her undergraduate studies, Amparo attended and received her J.D. degree from the University of Houston Law Center. She was licensed to practice law in Texas in 2002 and then clerked for the late U.S. District Court Judge Filemon Vela in Brownsville, Texas.
In 2003, Amparo began her law practice at Beirne, Maynard & Parsons in Houston, where she focused on complex commercial and energy matters, consumer litigation including insurance coverage and bad faith, mass tort, civil rights, and employment matters. There, Amparo represented various types of clients ranging from small businesses to large corporations.
In 2005, Amparo was appointed by former Houston Mayor Bill White and confirmed by Houston City Council as an Associate Municipal Judge for the City of Houston. She practiced law full-time and served as a municipal judge part-time through 2010. During her tenure, she was the youngest sitting judge on the Houston Municipal Court.
